Everything that you should know about marine pollution
Marine pollution occurs when chemicals, industrial, agricultural waste, noise, or the spread of invasive organisms are introduced in the ocean causing harmful effects. Most marine pollution sources are land based. Marine pollution often comes from nonpoint sources such as blown debris, dust and agricultural runoff.
Many toxic chemicals become tiny particles which are then taken up by plankton and benthos animals, most of which are filter feeders. These toxic chemicals are concentrated upward which cause highly depletive of oxygen. When pesticides enter the marine ecosystem, they quickly become absorbed into marine food webs. Once these pesticides enter the food web they cause mutations and diseases which are very harmful to humans as well as the entire food web. Also, toxic metals can be introduced into food webs, which cause a change to tissue matter, reproduction, behavior, and the growth in marine life.
